Patriots Feared Tom Brady Would Sign With Dolphins

Jun 30, 2021 8:17 AM

The New England Patriots "had very real concerns" early last offseason that Tom Brady would sign with the Miami Dolphins in free agency, according to a report.

The report cites Brady's relationship with Dolphins minority owner Bruce Beal as one of the main causes for concern for the Patriots.

Obviously, the concerns were unfounded as Brady signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and won a Super Bowl.

Derek Carr To Put On 'Full-Court Press' For Davante Adams In 2022

Jun 29, 2021 9:41 AM

Davante Adams won't be a free agent until next year, but Derek Carr is already preparing to recruit the wide receiver to the Las Vegas Raiders.

Adams and Carr were teammates at Fresno State.

"I've learned in this business, you never shut the door on anything," Carr said. "I know that he's obviously the best receiver -- everyone said one of the best, he's the best receiver in the NFL. The guy is unbelievable. He's been one of my best friends since we were in college together. I love the guy.

... "I would always welcome to play with him again. I think it would unlock some things in both of us that people haven't seen yet. I'm always open to that and I will be recruiting very hard. When that time comes, it will be a full-court press."

Demaryius Thomas Retires From NFL

Jun 28, 2021 5:22 PM

Demaryius Thomas has announced his retirement from the NFL.

Thomas was the first of two first-round picks for the Denver Broncos in the 2010 NFL draft and spent nine seasons with the team. Thomas played in 10 seasons overall and finished with 724 catches for 9,763 yards and 63 touchdowns.

"D.T. was the complete package as a wide receiver, growing into one of the very best at his position,'' Broncos president of football operations John Elway said in a statement announcing the news. "The combination of his size, speed, strength and athleticism was unmatched. Demaryius' remarkable consistency and production were instrumental in our offense setting historic records and our team winning a lot of games, including two AFC Championships and Super Bowl 50.''

Lamar Jackson Representing Himself In Contract Talks

Jun 28, 2021 9:54 AM

The Baltimore Ravens have been in talks with Lamar Jackson on a contract extension for months.

The 2019 NFL MVP has said he wants to stay in Baltimore "forever."

Jackson is negotiating his deal without a standard agent. The quarterback is representing himself, along with help from his mother.

"Agents, a lot of times, sort of act as a buffer for teams to players," Ian Rapoport said on The Pat McAfee Show. "It is a little different with Lamar Jackson because it's his mom sort of acting as his business partner, business manager."

Jackson's mother, Felicia Jones, previously helped represent him when he entered the NFL in 2018, finalizing the former first-rounder's rookie contract with the Ravens.

Trai Turner, Steelers Agree To One-Year Deal

Jun 24, 2021 9:10 PM

Trai Turner has agreed to a one-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers shortly after they released David DeCastro.

The Los Angeles Chargers released Turner in March after first attempting to trade him. Turner, 28, was limited to nine games last season because of a groin injury, but he said recently he was "back at 100 percent."

Turner had no guaranteed money left on a four-year, $45 million extension he signed with the Carolina Panthers in 2017.

Turner was selected to five Pro Bowls in his first six NFL seasons.

Jimmy Smith 'Absolutely Will Not Play For Another Team'

Jun 23, 2021 9:43 AM

Jimmy Smith has only played for one franchise since he was drafted in the first round in 2011 and the cornerback has no plans to change that.

"I absolutely will not play for another team," Smith said. "If the Ravens didn't re-sign me last year and I felt like I could still play, I probably would have still retired."

Smith, 32, forwent a chance at free agency to re-sign with the Ravens way back in December.

"To me, this is family," he said. "I know these guys. I've known them for so long. They know me. It's hard to go to a new place, and you've got to introduce yourself, you've got to impress people. I don't want to do all that. I'm good. I'm comfortable being here. Financially, I could not play another down right now and live my life great. It's not necessarily a money thing. Obviously, money weighs into this, but it's not the deciding factor. If I retire, if the Ravens are done with me, then I'm done playing ball."
